As of September 2015 the province has fully implemented full day learning for four and five year olds. Although the federal government has committed to funding full-time kindergarten in Council-operated schools, upon one year notification, there have been no additional funds provided in support of this.

Thus, the funding is merely reallocated from elsewhere to meet the full day learning needs of First Nations.  There has also not been any additional funding allocated for infrastructure needs to accommodate the space requirement needs for additional students.

As mandated by the Chiefs in Assembly the Education Coordination Unit (in collaboration with the Health and Social Services Units) have developed a First Nations Early Learning Model as depicted below.  The three Units continue to develop avenues to implement the Model and the recommendations from the Early Learning Asset Mapping Project (ELAMP).
